According to a press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation dated April 27, 2006 some 300,000 children are abducted by family members and 50,000 abducted by non-family members every year. Not only that, these figures refer to “before September 11, 2001″, so its a fair guess to say that the numbers today are even higher. How many of these are toddlers we don’t know, but I feel that if the number is only 1 that its still too high.

In many situations such as airports, train and bus stations, malls and stores it is easy to become distracted. An inexpensive electronic child guard can let you know when the child ( yours or one that you are responsible for) is seperated from you. Always remember to stay aware of your surroundings and stay focused, and your child guard will give your loved one an extra amount of protection.

Women are the usual victims of muggings. Most mugging incidents occur at night. Women, especially those without any companion, are easy prey. But women can protect themselves with some knowledge on self-defense. There are also self defense gadgets available in the market today, such as a pepper spray or a cell phone stun gun that can temporarily keep the attacker immobile.

A stun gun works on the nervous system. It delivers high-voltage electricity that temporarily paralyzes an attacker, allowing the victim to run and call for help. It does not cause long-term damage on the attacker but it might be enough for the attacker to learn his lesson. The pepper spray, on the other hand, causes temporary blindness as the heat penetrates the eyes and leaves the attacker in pain.

Every business, especially those into retail, must take the necessary precautions in preventing theft. Most robberies occur at night or in the wee hours of the morning. Gasoline stations and convenience stores that are open 24 hours a day are the usual victims. That is why it is necessary to have hidden security cameras installed.

Thieves will be wary of committing a crime knowing that their every move can be recorded. Cameras can also keep track of the performance of staff and check if they are doing their job well. It can also take note of the number of people who go in and out the store. Having security cameras keeps any business establishment safer and more secure.

Is an attack by a dog or more than one dog in your future? Hopefully not, but every year hundreds if not thousands of people are bitten or attacked by man’s best friend and some attacks are fatal. Your chances of being the victim of a dog attack may be affected by things like where you live, do you jog, ride a bike, deliver mail or packages (pizza included). The one thing we can be pretty sure of is that none of those who are attacked each year expected the attack to happen.

There are several types of dog chaser dog repeller  products on the market including chemical sprays which may or may not harm the animal. An electronic dog repeller works at a greater range (30-40 feet) than chemical sprays and should be the first line of defense. Always remember when threatened with attack by an animal, human or whatever, your main objective is not to beat the attacker into submission like in the movies, but to escape unharmed.

When it comes to protecting yourself from danger, you can’t be too careful or too prepared. Instead of carrying pepperspray or a stungun which could agitate a potential attacker, there are several forms of concealed protection available. These typically include normal household items like MP3 players,  cell phones or pagers. The cell phone stun gun is one of the more common options for concealed protection, and works great for surprising an attacker if you find yourself in a dangerous situation.

Remember to observe the standard rules of safety as well; avoid walking alone at night, avoid questionable locations, and always keep your valuables concealed.

Most burglaries happen when a house or an apartment is empty. People usually leave their lights off when they are gone—and thieves know this. In some cases people will leave lights on when they leave their homes, but this habit could result in a hefty utility bill.

One way to counteract thieves is to install use time switches on your lights. This way your lights will turn off and on often enough to convince a thief that you are home. These switches are valuable home security systems that can also be installed on televisions and radios.  If you aren’t able to utilize the use time light switched on then you should ask a friend or a neighbor to visit your home while you are away. Tell them to turn on a light in a different room each time they are there.

More than a third of all burglaries occur when thieves enter your home through a back window. If you have never taken the time to consider how a burglar may look at your home then you probably should. If you don’t have strong locks on your doors and windows your home may be the perfect target for a thief.

Taking some simple precautions like installing a window alarm on that rear window can protect your home from a break in. Window alarms are designed to fit sliding and hinged windows. Many of these alarms can be operated by simply pressing a button. A robber will be rudely awakened after trying to open a window fortified with an alarm.
